My name is Mahan Khalsa and today I’d like to share with you one of my GREATEST PASSIONS… something that saved my life again and again for almost 2 decades! Something that I’ve turned into a THRIVING practice and SUCCESSFUL business!
And do you know what it is?
When I was 23 years old, I found myself depressed and suicidal. In my final year of University, I discovered recreational drugs and the rave screen. These experiences literally blew my heart and mind wide open… which I feel was a good thing. However, after a year of partying, if I was not high, I was down, way down.
I remember the first time I did yoga. It was a cold, snowy day in London, Ontario and I found myself listening to John Lennon singing ~ “Imagine all the people… Living Life in Peace…“
Well I certainly wasn’t living life in peace. And I was praying that this yoga class would be my salvation.
I remember laying there in savasana, dead man’s pose… the scent of the incense was so familiar. The Mexican blanket that covered me felt so cozy and safe. And for a moment, I felt relaxed, calm and at peace.
This began my life long passion and eventually transformed into my life’s purpose. What was once a breakdown, became breakthrough.
My love for yoga took me to Asia, where I spent almost a decade of my life. I was hungry for something deeper. Growing up in the West, I had everything I needed…. and yet there was an emptiness inside me. I committed myself to learning, practicing and evolving my self-awareness.
Yoga literally means to join, and through my practice I’ve learned to love and accept myself for who I am. Over the years, I’ve turned to my yoga mat for strength, perspective, grace and a re-commitment to focus on the “light”.
It is here that I reconnect with my breath, my body and my Spirit. Yoga has carried me through an eating disorder, depression, limiting beliefs, miscarriages, addictions, divorce, bankruptcy, illness and more. Yoga allows me to feel present, grateful, grounded and empowered as a woman, mother, entrepreneur and community member.
Diving deeper into myself, I’ve aligned with my own true nature. I’ve discovered a holistic path that opens me to new ways of being. I’ve explored natural healing practices, organic whole food diets, and the healing power of plant medicines. I’ve lived in a yurt and grown my own vegetables. I travelled the world, gave birth to my daughter in India, appeared on CBC’s Dragons Den. I’ve sang Kumbaya on mountain tops, sat with indigenous leaders from around the world in sacred ceremony. I’ve swam with dolphins & whales in Hawaii and allowed my heart’s desire to be my guiding force.
For as long as I can remember, I felt a calling to serve, support and inspire others. I’ve had the good fortune to teach over 3000 yoga classes, workshops and retreats internationally. I consider myself a lifestyle entrepreneur, as I transform all that I love into my service. Currently, I own and operate a private coaching practice, as well as a corporate yoga business.
Yoga saved my life again and again for almost 2 decades, and I am living proof that is possible to turn breakdown into breakthrough. It is my passion and commitment to continue shining my light bright, to be a loving guide for others to align with their true nature.
One of my favorite teachers, Yogi Bhajan said, “It’s not the life that matters most, but the COURAGE you bring to it!” Courage is of the HEART! Yoga is a 5000 year old ancient science that returns us to this SPACE.
Peace and Love!
